» Roommate Treaty
By Jeff Stats | Published 04/21/2007 | | Unrated  printer version
An ability to solve problems plays an important role in a person’s career. People that know how to quickly find a reasonable solution of a tribulation always receive decent jobs. Unfortunately, we get no credit for solving everyday routine problems. The problem I faced was more than just a simple routine dilemma. I experienced hard times with my roommate. We did not get along quite well because of some disagreements in basic everyday things. For instance, she would listen to her music without headphones on when I tried to study or invite guests over without asking if I did not mind. Another thing she did is take some of my books and magazines without permission. The worst though, was when she did not want to clean the room when I did so. Then I thought, "Why should it irritate me any longer? We should just sign some sort of legal document to regulate the rules".

J.B. Watson, the father of Behaviorism, defined learning as a sequence of stimulus and response actions in perceptible cause and effect relationships, thus the focus of Behaviorism is on the training of observable human behavior. Major scholars associated with this learning theory are J.B Watson, E. L Thorndike, and B.F Skinner. According to the last, voluntary or automatic behavior is either reinforced or weakened by the immediate presence of a reward or a punishment, he claimed that, "The learning principle behind operant conditioning is that new learning occurs as a result of positive reinforcement, and old patterns are abandoned as a result of negative reinforcement". So we can easily track the applied character of this theory to the learning/teaching process as teaching is the arrangement of possibilities of reinforcement under which students learn.

» Migration Problems
By Jeff Stats | Published 04/21/2007 | College & University | Unrated  printer version

As the term "global village" becomes a key definition of the modern world most of developed countries open their doors to professional immigrants from developing countries. Consequently, developing countries experience the lack of skilled people that could rise up the economic levels of their home countries. Recently, African countries have become the leaders of those states that significantly suffer from migration of its citizens to more developed countries. Although, African nations are even more than partially responsible for the "brain drain" they face as they encourage their citizens to receive experience in developed countries; after finishing training programs abroad and experienced better quality of life African citizens simply do not want to come back to their home countries. It is crucially important for the governments of African countries to stop such mass migration from Africa in order to have their home countries developing.

Outsourcing cannot be considered a new phenomenon even though the rising attention toward this subject has brought lots of important issues into the daylight. Lots of service and even manufacturing companies started creating jobs overseas to gain wider access to foreign markets. Security Management is described as essential part of the business operations in big companies as well as medium size enterprises today. Needless to say that success of business depends highly on many aspects of company’s procedures and policies in security segment, but such segment has to be greatly supported by the company’s executives. The articles claims that the key to effective security functioning is in advocacy that has to be sought in those who make final decisions especially in terms of financial assistance. Evidently such approach to this problem is a wise one as it sets a right start for the implementation of security system as a whole in the company. People who understand and approve of such projects are essential for security managers not only as someone who signs budgetary papers but also who comprehend why and how security is a business oriented notion today and thus serves as protector of its physical assets as well as intellectual property such as data storage.

» Why Civil War is Second American Revolution?
By Jeff Stats | Published 04/20/2007 | College & University | Unrated  printer version
No doubt that the real meaning of the Civil War is completely different from the one we are used to. Civil War is called the Second American Revolution by some great historians. The term "Second American Revolution" was first used by Charles and Mary Beard about seventy years ago when describing the American Civil War. Only after everything was settled about the reunion and reconciliation, after the construction of monuments were completed, after all the veterans were satisfied, when most of the emotions were dull the Civil War could have been viewed from another prospective, the logical prospective that could easily point out "that armed conflict had been only one phase of the cataclysm, a transitory phase; that at bottom the so-called Civil War, or the War between the States ... was a social war, ending in the unquestioned establishment of a new power in the government, making vast changes in the arrangement of classes, in the accumulation and distribution of wealth, in the course of industrial development, and in the Constitution inherited from the Fathers."
