Meditation Tips for the Beginner
Meditation provides an excellent means for relaxing the mind, body, and spirit. As such, it is an excellent way to relieve stress and to feel refreshed. But, how do you go about meditating if you have never done it before?
Forget About the Humming
When you think about meditation, you might envision pictures of people sitting on top of a mountain and humming. Humming isn’t necessary when meditating. Some people do choose to hum because it helps them clear their minds and to reduce distraction. So, if you also choose to hum, that is fine. You might find, however, that you prefer absolute silence. Or, you might enjoy listening to relaxing music to help you achieve that ideal meditative state.
Sit However You Like
Thinking back to those guys sitting on top of the mountain….you probably picture them sitting cross-legged with their hands resting upturned on their knees, right? This is not necessary when meditating to relieve stress. In fact, you really should just find a position that is comfortable for you. Some people do find this position to be the most comfortable. But, you might choose to lie down, to sit in a chair, or even to stand. Find a position that helps your body feel relaxed and you will have more success making your mind relax as well.
Do it for as Long as You Like
There is nothing that says you need to meditate for a specific amount of time or that you have to meditate for the same amount of time each time you do it. If it only takes you five minutes to reach that relaxed state – great! In fact, the more you meditate, the quicker you will most likely be at reaching that state. At the same time, you will probably enjoy it so much and feel so refreshed afterward that you choose to extend your meditation time and to remain in that state for a longer period of time. Choose an amount of time that is comfortable for you.
